1919,
August 13 - N. Popa was born at Târpesti
1934-1938 - attended the Music School in
Piatra Neamt. (the school principle was the priest Constantin
Matasa, amateur archaeologist and founder of the Museum
of History in Piatra Neamt)
1937 - his first archaeological exploration
at Târpesti.
1938 - joined the army and took part in the
Second World War.
1944 - was wounded and discharged.
1952-1957 - was arrested and convicted for
political reasons
1961-1965 - the first archaeological digging
took place in Târpesti - Râpa
lui Bodai, under the supervision of professor Vladimir
Dumitrescu from the Archaeological Institute in Bucharest.
It was around that time that Neculai Popa started his work
as a naïve sculptor. He took part in numerous personal and
group exhibitions, national and local contests of naïve art
and folklore festivals in the country and abroad.
1972 - the first groups of foreign tourists
came to visit the home of the artist and to see his work and
traditional objects gathered and displayed in a museum organized
by himself.
1976 - a new building for the museum opened.
